St John's Chapel & Wearhead Primaries NSPCC Number Day Fun! The children have absolutely loved celebrating NSPCC Number Day today! From fishing for numbers and discovering hidden digits in the sand, all the way to working out what could be bought within a budget it's been a brilliant day of handson, practical maths activities. Not only have the children had great fun, but they've also helped raise awareness for an excellent cause. Well done everyone!

St. John's Chapel and Wearhead As part of our science topic on human survival, we have investigated the best way to wash our hands. We used cooking oil on our hands and talked about how it looked and felt before and after each wash. The children discovered that the temperature of the water doesn't matter as long as you use soap. We discussed how the water temperature would burn them if it was hot enough to kill the germs so soap was the most important factor. We also made sure to rub our hands together for 20 seconds (whilst singing happy birthday twice) to lather the soap up nicely for effective hand washing.

Butterknowle Primary School Nursery & Reception As part of our Let's Explore project we have been learning about the environments that we share with others, including our homes, school and places in the local community. This has led to many adventures and experiences like minibeast hunts, a sensory walk, creating maps, den building and a wonderful walk through the village. On our walk we noticed different types of buildings, their features and local landmarks. We were also lucky enough to be invited to stop off at KD'S Cakes and Bakes Shed, where Kirsty treated us to a delicious picnic which we enjoyed back at school. Thank you Kirsty.

St John's Chapel & Wearhead Primaries Science in Action! The children in Year 5 and Year 6 have been busy young scientists this week as they explored the solubility of different materials. They investigated which substances dissolve in water, which don't, and what happens when you mix different materials together. There was lots of great predicting, observing, and discussing fantastic scientific thinking all round. Well done, everyone!

Wearhead Primary As part of Class 2's English using 'The Wind in the Willows' we have been looking into the dangerous speedy driving of Mr Toad and held a trial in 'court' to determine his fate. The children worked hard gathering evidence for and against Toad being sentenced to 20 years in prison. They used their debating skills which they worked on last week to support the delivery of their case. They prepared questions and answers whilst thinking about their own particular role and character traits. The children were confident, spoke clearly, challenged arguments appropriately, maintained appropriate eye contact and used facts backed up with evidence to support their opinions. I am very proud of the hard work the children put into their debating and their court trial lessons. Well done Class 2!
