About Us

Wearhead Primary School is a very small and nurturing village school that caters for children from 2 years old through to Year 6. We are proud of our family atmosphere, where everyone knows and supports one another, and every child is valued as an individual. Our small size enables staff to build exceptionally strong relationships with children and their families, creating a warm, caring environment where pupils feel happy, safe and confident to be themselves.

At Wearhead, children thrive both academically and personally. We have high expectations for all pupils and provide a rich curriculum alongside strong pastoral support to ensure that every child achieves their full potential. The positive relationships between staff and pupils underpin all aspects of school life, helping children develop a love of learning, resilience and confidence.

As part of the Durham Dales Partnership, pupils benefit from regular opportunities to learn alongside children from our other federation schools through shared lessons, educational visits, sporting events and residential experiences. These opportunities help to broaden horizons, develop friendships and prepare pupils well for the next stage of their education.

We are experienced in supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our inclusive approach, personalised support and close partnership with families ensure that every child receives the care, encouragement and provision they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Behaviour throughout the school is excellent, with older pupils acting as positive role models for younger children. Pupils are proud of their school, enjoy learning and demonstrate kindness, respect and responsibility in all that they do. Families speak highly of the caring ethos, dedicated staff and strong sense of community that make Wearhead Primary School such a special place to learn and grow.
